DALEY NEWS
The silence from the mayor’s press office continues. Was it something we said? Well there’re more ways than one to find out what the mayor got up to today. Emails from the press office be damned! We don’t need no stinking emails.
As best as I can tell, the mayor had a single event today — accepting a $250 million check from Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan. The money was earmarked for affordable senior housing, namely rehabbing and reopening the Kenmore Senior Apartments, the site of today’s event.
As the mayor was accepting a check for millions of federal dollars, officials back at City Hall were threatening to layoff hundreds of workers after the union rejected a demand that workers take 16 unpaid furlough days this summer.
DALEY CHATTER
The blogosphere is abuzz over a column from today’s Sun-Times by Rick Telander. The sports columnist tears a pound of flesh from Daley’s hide over his push to land the Olympics.
Telander’s screed rivals — nay, surpasses — anything you’ve ever seen written in this space. It is genius. Read it now. For those who want to continue reading today’s Daily Daley, here is how Telander begins his column:
The City of Chicago, led by Mayor Daley and a vast and tumorous army of aldermen and bagmen and yesmen and opportunists and spineless, parasitic political-machine halfwits of forms never seen outside the roiling cesspool of governmental slop-trough greed, has proven itself unworthy of something as potentially delicious and fulfilling as the 2016 Olympic Games.
We couldn’t have said it better here ourselves.
That’s all, folks. Have a great weekend!

Right on. Totally agree, this was one of the best things I've read all year so far. I hope the entire city reads it.
