Reporter James Foley recently looked at an addiction recovery coach in Humboldt Park who had to overcome substance troubles of his own:

Lucien Izraylov has lived a hard life for a guy under 30. He has bounced in and out of recovery programs, done almost as many stints in jail and overdosed twice....

Today, Izraylov runs three houses in Chicago dedicated to helping ex-addicts stay clean in a sober-living environment, and his plan is to one day help others like him own and operate their own sober-living homes.

Clients sign a contract and pay $135 a week to sleep on one of his 41 beds. According to some of Foley's interviews, these homes sound like quite a step up from your average detox center. One guy compares them to Disneyland.

Anyone have any experience with these sorts of programs in Chicago?

Chicago has a slew of recovery homes..... A Fresh Start is a hellhole...... Management steals property from clients, the owner is concerned with nothing but money, should I go on??? This place is turning into another Jack Clarks Family

I had moved into A Fresh Start a little over one year ago. I was truly amazed by the facility with all of it's charm. Residents are very well taken care of. Can you believe that satellite cable, wi-fi internet access plus a computer room, house phone, air conditioning, toasty heat, water, electric, and supplies are all included in the modest weekly rent? The freedom to personalize my living space, the priviledge to use the internet and house phone to job search. The relationships I have established and the support I have been given is Truly priceless. The location could never be beat in the most idealistic sense. A bus everywhere you look. A grocery store no more than a 10 min walk. The management maintains a zero tolerance policy when dealing with a relapse and display "heart and soul" enforcing the structure provided. I have had the experience of so many wonderful and sober moments - with the emphasis focused on a 12 step program. I really cannot express the level of gratitude I feel towards the place. No place quite like it. It's like magic. Like candyland for the ones who are serious about recovery...
