Miguel Elliot at work

Noteworthy coverage on Medill Reports:

  • Miguel Elliot: A granddaddy of green building comes to Chicago (video) - "Green building isn't all about high-tech gadgets. As a new project at the Chicago Avenue Community Garden proves, a simple mixture of sand, straw, water and clay called cob may be one of the most sustainable materials out there. Natural builder Miguel Elliott demonstrates the power of cob as he sculpts an oven and bench out of the material -- a process involving impromptu drum concerts, dirty hands and plenty of cob squishing between the toes." by Elisabeth Kwak-Hefferan
  • Latino Enrollment low at Chicago area law schools - "Despite the burgeoning population of Latinos in Chicago, enrollment at area law schools doesn't reflect the change, resulting in a low percentage of Hispanic attorneys. This will impact the representation of Hispanics in politics and in the courts where hotly debated issues regarding immigration and security often play out, according to legal experts and activists alike." by Jaqueline A. Ingles
  • Metra train kills woman on Northwest side - "A 45-year-old woman was struck and killed by a Metra train early Wednesday on the Northwest Side, authorities said. Her name was withheld pending notification of the family. Metra spokesman Patrick Waldron said it is not yet clear why the woman was on the tracks of a Milwaukee District West Line near McLean and Natchez avenues as the train approached the Galewood station." by Elisabeth Kilpatrick
