Vodka tonics with a side of prayer
It takes about two vodka tonics before I’m physically able to board a plane—or as I like to call it, a coffin with wings. Another $6 shot of liquid courage from the nice flight attendants, and I’m good to go for the duration.
This becomes a problem with age and maturity as I begin to travel more both because my family resides in Texas (aka, Utopia) and because I am beginning to take business/school-related trips to meet sources and do research. But for most flights, it works.
That is, except for this past weekend.

Taste of Chicago vs. Summerfest
The Taste of Chicago and Milwaukee's Summerfest have lots of similarities. Both festivals attract thousands with food, fun and big name musical acts. They both span the same 10 or so days each summer. And this year they both got Stevie Wonder.
But for my money I'll take Summerfest over the Taste any day of the week.

The obligatory, cheesy Father's Day post
There was a column in the Chicago Tribune recently defending the necktie as a good Father's Day gift. Hogwash.
It's true that when fathers are asked what they want for Father's Day, they'll probably say nothing. That could be because they think you're asking what material thing they want. And as for material things, most fathers couldn't really give a damn.
