I've lived in Chicago for 6 years now, and the two neighborhoods I lived in before Albany Park were Rogers Park and Uptown, both having great blogs covering the local scene. I was an avid follower of Uptown Update, so when I moved to Albany Park I mused over the idea of starting a local blog. I quickly realized that Albany Park was my neighborhood, and despite all the trash and crime, I felt at home among all the immigrants. I marveled at seeing women in burkahs one day, and women balancing large baskets clad in colorful traditional African garb the next. I never thought I was a foodie until I moved here and began experiencing all the authentic restaurants. Albany Park doesn't have the nickname "Gateway to America" for nothing!
I began blogging about Albany Park over the summer here, and I plan on maintaining the same formula on Windy Citizen. My goal is to provide Albany Park residents with all the information they need to be active (or lazy) citizens, whether it be CAPS meetings, crime alerts, local events or updates on new developments and construction projects. I am open to suggestions, ideas, and tips, so feel free to message me any time!
