I love these kinds of signs. Too bad they're blocked so often by crappy looking condo buildings.

I was trying to figure out the same thing too. I was staring at the picture for quite some time trying to figure it out. lol
katherine of chicago has a whole set called "ghost signs" .... maybe it's a way to describe signs left over from yesteryear?
