Good afternoon, everyone, it's 4:00pm. Today starts the Carnival at Lawndale and Wolfram. I will be going to it, but only for about 30-60 minutes. I hope it's good. Anyway, this afternoon/evening should be partly cloudy to clear skies. So, here is crime for this afternoon and evening.
4:07PM - Gang disturbance. Belmont and Milwaukee. Three Latin Kings flashing signs. They have white, red and black shirts, walking northwest.
4:16PM - Battery in progress. 4404 W Fullerton. Three people fighting out in front.
4:45PM - Heading to the carnival. Will be back soon :).
5:45PM - I'm back from the carnival. It was good for the most part, but I do have a concern. I don't see any police prescene and there's about 10 to 15 gangbangers both in the carnvial and at the 2830 N Lawndale house. Maybe the squad car is on George again like last year? If it is, it needs to come to the Wolfram side. If no car is assigned there, I'm just advising anyone who's attending to be careful. If a gang fight breaks out, call 911 or the station ASAP, then tomorrow maybe I can try calling the station to see if they can assign a car there.
5:56PM - Battery. 2043 N Avers. Male Black with a white t-shirt and blue jeans hit the complaint.
5:57PM - Two more calls have came in for the 5:56pm call. Now people are fighting and arguing. It sounds like a hot mess.
6:12PM - Backlog in 25 at 18:12 hours.
6:14PM - The 5:57pm job is actually separate from the 5:56pm job. There was a fight at Mozart Park.
6:16PM - Burglar alarm. 2132 N Pulaski.
6:18PM - 1) Burglar alarm. On 2523's beat. 2) Parker. 3733 W Palmer. 3) Burglar report. 1733 N Lawndale.
6:33PM - Vice complaint. 3068 N Avers and 2311 N Harding.
6:50 to 6:54PM - I was on the phone with the police station regarding my concern. The officer said there wasn't a car assigned there but he talked to the Watch Commander to see if a car can be assigned there. But, he said, my (and our) best bet would be to call 911 if anything starts. The officer on the phone was nice :).
7:07PM - I have to go eat. I'll be back soon.
7:19PM - I'm back from eating :).
7:31PM - 1) Criminal damage. 4358 W Fullerton. 2) Municipal ordinance violation. 2433 N Lawndale. 3) Something at 2200 N Keystone. 4) Criminal damage. 3949 W Armitage.
7:40PM - The 1733 N Lawndale is bona fide. ET being ordered and canvass being done.
8:05PM - Person w/ a gun. 3942 W Barry. Male White, 40-45 yrs old, bald, white t-shirt and possibly jeans threatened an elderly female with a gun. He was also waving the gun around.
8:21PM - Traffic accident. 3607 W Fullerton.
8:30PM - I am now only covering 2523's Beat. Beats 2524, 2525 and 2535 will NOT be covered until 11pm, UNLESS something like a big fight or a shooting/stabbing occurrs. The detail for 2523's Beat will be this color.
8:36PM - Battery in progress. Milwaukee and Monticello. Male beating female. This is also coming in as 2971 N Ridgeway.
9:11PM - I'm getting a report that gangbangers are screaming at each other over at the carnival. A fight will most likely break out shortly.
10:00PM - The carnival should be letting out right about ... now. Let's see what happens.
10:02PM - Backlog is being taken out at 22:02 hours.
10:10PM - So far, so good up here by the carnvial. Meanwhile, all hell just broke loose at Mayfield and Augusta. There's a huge street fight with a police heilcopter watching. They witnessed a kid get hit by a car.
10:25PM - Person down. 3198 N Milwaukee. By Taco Bell.
11:00PM - I'm back to covering all Beats in our neighborhood in the 25th District. It turns out nothing happened (at least here on 25's side) from the carnival. No street fights or anything of that nature have been reported. Tomorrow, I will keep an eye on the carnival, just not as much as I did tonight. Now watch, tomorrow, when I'm not keeping an close on the carnival, something will probably happen. But maybe not, as it's supposed to rain and be rather cold tomorrow.
11:02PM - Several calls for a person down at Belmont and Milwaukee. In front of the Shell gas station, an older male is bleeding from the face.
11:06PM - Backlog put right back in at 23:06 hours.
11:08PM - Parker. 25XX N Hamlin.
11:42PM - 1) Beat 2544 has a couple of curfews at Diversey and Pulaski. They're being relocated to 4010 W Jackson. 2) Vice complaint on 2523's beat.
11:56PM - Domestic Battery. 3638 W North. Male Hispanic, white/blue shirt and shorts beat up the complaint.

At least they're wearing colors that look good together.
That's true.
ALCB, you've heard just about everything under the sun come across the police scanner while doing this blog. Are there some infractions that you just don't think should be reported? For instance, this one. It sounds pretty tame. Should police really be phoning in someone flashing a gang sign? It sounds a lot like phoning in "I just saw some black guys cross the street."
Yeah, I've heard just about everything. As for that example you just gave me, I really don't think they should, unless something comes up regarding that (like a gang fight later on, or a gang member calling for a supervisor). I usually don't hear officers tell dispatch they saw that, however. Alot of gang disturbances are called in by 911 callers, such as the 4:07pm call.
