The bodies of a man and woman in their 70s have been found in a wooded area of a forest preserve near Calumet City, officials said.

Cook County Forest Preserve Police spokesman Steve Mayberry says a woman walking in the area contacted Calumet City police at about 12:30 p.m. after she saw the bodies off Campbell Road between Pulaski and Michigan City Roads.

The bodies were clothed and appeared to be an African-American woman and man, Mayberry said. They were found about 10 to 15 feet from the roadside.

A spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office said the identities of the dead were not yet known, but that it appeared that the two people were in their 70s.

Mayberry declined to say whether police are considering the deaths homicides. The Forest Preserve Police were working on the case with Cook County sheriff's investigators.
