The teen against whom charges were dropped Monday in the beating death of a Fenger High School student indicated this morning that he doesn't necessarily want to return to that school.
While expressing relief this morning that his three-week ordeal was over, Eugene Baily, 17, said he is looking for "help" from the Chicago Public Schools board "about what school they will enroll me in."
Bailey and his mother were interviewed this morning at their South Side
home by WGN-720AM and WGN-Ch. 9. Ava Greyer expressed concern about how
her son would be received at Fenger in the wake of the beating death of
his friend Derrion Albert.
The family also showed reporters a
notice from the Chicago Housing Authority that their housing voucher
was being terminated because of the charges against Baily, which now
have been dropped. But mother and son said their housing situation was
in limbo.
Bailey initially was identified by witnesses,
including adults, as a participant in the brawl captured on video that
showed Albert being punched and hit with wood planks. Baily's family
had maintained that he was at his brother's home at the time, nowhere
near the fight.
Two law enforcement sources said other witness accounts conflicted with the identification of Bailey.
