City closes North Side bar due to pest problems

City inspectors closed a Lakeview bar and grill today after management failed to correct mouse and fly infestation problems found a week earlier, a city spokesman said.

Mickey's Grill & Pub, 2831 N. Broadway, was closed today after inspectors re-visited after flagging mouse and flying insect infestations as problems on Oct. 16, city Streets and Sanitation spokesman Matt Smith said in a news release.

Inspectors from the city's Dumpster Task Force pointed out flies near the bar on their first visit, but insects were still in evidence today. Although some cleaning appeared to have been done, inspectors found more than 120 mouse droppings in the food storage areas, according to the release.

Although leaving a health code violation like the infestations uncorrected after an inspection automatically results in a closing order from the city, the infestations seen today were bad enough that they could have brought a closing after just one visit, according to the release.

The bar will remain closed until it has cleaned, revised its housekeeping and pest control procedures and pest-proofed, the release stated.
