An investor group led by Chicago businessman James Tyree has completed its acquisition of substantially all of what was once the Sun-Times Media Group Inc. in a transaction valued at $26.5 million, Sun-Times Media Holdings LLC announced today.
The deal takes the flagship Chicago Sun-Times, its suburban sister daily and weekly publications and their complementary Web sites "out from under the shadow of the bankruptcy proceedings affecting their prior owner and begin a new era as a locally owned and managed media conglomerate," the announcement said.
