This links to a different publication's write up of the story than the one you link to qustrian, but there seem to be four or five versions posted here. The place deserves all of them, though!
In fact, there are six versions of th Blackhawk closing story here. But this one links to a video of Bob Haggart playing "Big Noise from Winnetka"!
Most restaurants don't send out a press release to announce their imminent closing -- I'm sure that contributed to the wide coverage. Not that the closing of an 89-year-old company isn't newsworthy on its own.
The Blackhawk Restaurant epitomized an era in which business executives entertained lavishly with a full measure of savoir faire! Conversations took their course, uninterrupted by the accoutrements of text messages & incessant cell phones. Good mannners dictated that one excuse oneself for yielding to an occassional distraction which included a grand entrance, whiff of perfume or sultry smile. The Blackhawk Restaurant will be missed for its cuisine, attentive service, but most importantly, the dignity & civility of that era.
