An update on last night's mugging from the Tribune. The victim talks.
1. The "people" tag seems to having some issues. There are "gay celebrities" in this story? Wha?
2. I know people look at LP as some sort of yuppy wonderland, but it's very much a part of a major city, which means it'll always be at least as dangerous as the neighborhoods around it...which include some pretty rough areas.
About the people tag--the original story page on CBS2 has, among other things, a photo gallery called "To be in or out: Gay celebrities" next to the story text. The tag must've caught that.
It did not, however, tag anything from the other galleries on the page: "Zoo Babies: Cuteness Unleashed," "Coolest Fighter Jets ... EVER!," "Jewish Celebrities," "Celebrities Separated At Birth?," and "Hottest Female Athletes." Good thing it didn't.
couldn't agree more. the reaction here implies that people in lincoln park are somehow better than folks in the rest of the city that have to deal with this kind of stuff every day. why so serious a reaction when it's in a rich neighborhood?
Yep. Also, those neighborhood reps can be VERY deceiving and it can literally change from one block to another. Like you said, the bottom line is that it's a city and anything can happen anywhere. We lived for 2 years near a housing project. Drug dealers lived above us (we know, we heard them arguing about deals gone bad). Then 6 years in a supposedly "nice" neighborhood. Two break-ins. So you never know.
