Echoing one of the comments posted on the original story, the Boystown case worries me. The Edgewater/Uptown case doesn't bother me; they have a crime problem and they're trying to actively apply Jane Jacobs's "eyes on the street" theory. In Boystown it's different. They aren't saying they have a crime problem. They have a problem with people who "don't belong here." Who "don't have no right [sic] to be here." They are denying public space to people (whom I doubt are any louder than all of the bar and club patrons), and it does seem like the reasoning is racial. Boystown in for whites; the non-white teens need not apply.
