Rep. Kirk wants Pace to buy new hybrid buses even though the diesel ones they are planning to buy are half the cost and get more miles per gallon. Is this just hype around the word hybrid?

the 30-foot diesel buses Pace is planning to buy for $290,000 each will get 5.25 miles to the gallon, about half a mile per gallon more than the 40-foot hybrid buses Kirk is urging them to buy for $600,000 each.

Diesel fuel is one of the simplest of the fuels to refine. Simple = cheap. If we think about this from a financial perspective, OPEC is charging us the same amount of money, no matter whether gasoline, or diesel, or kerosene, or jet fuel, or parts cleaner is made out of it. They don't care what it gets turned into. So wouldn't OPEC be making more money off of diesel fuel than from gasoline?
