Incredibly, CTA Tattler took me to task for my opinion in this video blog post--they said it was just fine for the CTA president to drive to work for a family reason. Isn't that holding yourself to a lower standard than your own riders, many of whom would probably love to be able to avoid the CTA in the morning, too? Read Tattler's comment and see my rebuttal in my comment thread here: http://bit.ly/3FHJ48
I also asked my readers on Chicagosphere for their opinion on the issue later in the day in a post entitled Blog Debate: Should the CTA President Get a Pass on Driving to Work? http://bit.ly/36vkSW
seems difficult to promote and understand public transit services if you don't commute on them
Pelham 123 has New York's Mayor taking mass transit to work. What's the point?
Maybe he's not taking the CTA to work because the CTA is a disaster, and he knows it? The whole thing needs to be sold off to a completely private enterprise that's willing to fix the thing, without interference from unions or government meddling. (If they doubled the fares and kept the trains clean and bum-free, I'd consider it a fair deal.)
