It appears that thieves may be targeting Oak Park residents on the Green Line and snatching their iPhones right out of their hands while they are riding the train. Today, I became one of the unlucky statistics.

Let's call out the Guardian Angels, Oakparkerr!
Something tells me they probably have more serious crimes to worry about. Although, I've heard that some people have been assaulted during the thefts. People definitely need to be more alert (myself included).
Welcome to the Citizen. This site is for Chicagoans who want to share neat stuff they find on the web. We've got lot of neighborhood publishers posting stuff. You should give your readers over there a heads up to come by and vote your posts up. Welcome.
With the recent thefts and the increasing CTA fare, I don't know that I would take the Green Line anymore. I've always been on the fence about it before but now I'd rather drive and pay to park in the city.
We need an iphone app that will turn the iphone into a grenade and blow up the perpetrator once they run off...
Stay alert!
No thanks! Those guys are scary, scary, scary:

Cool site. Bookmarked.
That would in fact be awesome.
Well, it can't be that much more dangerous than doing anything in a major city. Just don't ride around at night by yourself. And pay attention! If the original writer hadn't been sucked into her music, I wonder if the thief would have felt he could run off with her phone.
Caveat emptor, Windy Citizens?
What's the broader story?
Have suburbanites forgotten that there's no CTA conductor on those trains & no guarantee that a law enforcement officers, well-meaning good samaritan or CTA employee will intervene?
These stories remind us that modern technology has robbed many of us of the ambient awareness of fellow commuters and natural beauty of our surroundings.
May I suggest that CTA commuters occassionally park the iPod, pocket the iPhone & strike up a conversation with an presentable, approachable stranger?
Commuters may discover a priceless moment more valuable than another iPhone app or music shuffle.
@qstrian Have you been on the Green Line to Oak Park before? The natural surroundings are anything but beautiful.
I agree. I don't know why I can't just log onto a website and send a signal that erases everything my phone.
True, if I hadn't been listening to my music, he probably wouldn't have grabbed my phone. But I've been riding the Green Line for 4 years and I've never felt particularly safe on it. I don't ride it at night (the incident happened in the middle of the day) by myself whereas when I lived in the city, I never felt uncomfortable on the Red Line. I will continue to ride the Green Line because I refuse to pay to park in the city, but I still don't like it.
I find beauty in many places where others may not, Oakparkerr.
