Congrats on the pickup, Kate!
Not the first time I've heard of taqwacore, though it is the first mention of it I've heard in relation to Chicago. Almost wish there was a little bit more about the scene here. I wonder if they ever get any bar or club shows or if it's primarily house show stuff.
Sorry, I meant to post my comment in reply to yours. I've listed below the details for two of their upcoming shows, and I know they also appear at the Empty Bottle from time to time.
I thought the story would include the dates of their next shows, but they were left out. If you want to see Al-Thawra, they are playing at the Save the Future Palestinian Block Party in Wicker Park on Sunday: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=123569903463&ref=search&sid=220042...
Plus, they'll also be playing at The Blackhole in South Lawndale on Oct. 2, as a part of the Chicago Apocalyptic Crust Fest.
Great story, Kate Shellnutt! Reading of such diversity helps us to celebrate World Peace on a day devoted to the same. If you want peace, work for justice!
