Eric Kittlaus has been selling CTA-stop-themed apparel from his web site Toghaus.com. He's just announced he's closing up shop but taking final orders from people who want to have their favorite stops emblazoned across their chest.

If you want the ultimate authentic original Chicago Transit Authority approved - real deal - transit tee, they can be found through http://tattooedtees.com/

And they have an amazing design and style.

Have been alerted to an alternative by a helpful tweeter: http://thatsmystop.com/

There were two people selling CTA t-shirts? What an odd niche to have competition in.

Did the That's My Stop guy put the Toghaus guy out of business?

Maybe they should have a knife fight on a Northbound Red Line train over exclusive rights to CTA T's.

I doubt it. The Toghaus guy probably just got a real job :) In truth, I have no idea, but he offered more options than this ThatsMyStop.com guy so it seems dubious that he would be bested by him.

By the way, the About Us on ThatsMyStop.com is very charming and relatable. I'm pretty sure that part about Lincoln Square is 100% true: http://thatsmystop.com/aboutUs.aspx

I SO wanna do this....BAD.

Here is a new (similar) line of Chicago 'L' shirts by a local artist.

I contacted Erik Kittlaus, the brains behind Toghaus t-shirts, and he was kind enough to give the Windy Citizen a closing statement, of sorts. Enjoy this Citizen exclusive --

What's in the name? Two things, tog means fine clothing (which almost no one realizes it turns out). Toga, which most are familiar with, is a derivative of the word tog. Haus, well that's obvious, and it's a fit in the sense that I'm both Norwegian and German (my mother hailing from Norway). In addition tog means train in Norwegian so 'train house' combines both my Norwegian and Germanic heritage in a way that relates to the subject matter.

What stands out is my experience with this is the connection people have to their neighborhoods. Chicago is full of interesting and unique neighborhoods as we know and this turned out to be maybe an interesting way of expressing that.

For me though the coolest thing was all the love I got from people in the form of letters, email, and photos of people proudly donning their shirts in their travels around the world. Overall it was a great experience but the balance between my web design and the shirt (side business) proved too demanding of my time. I have some ambitious projects I'm working on now that mean more to me at this point than the other things so I'm in the process of cutting out the things in my life unrelated to these projects. It was a great run and I had a lot of fun with it but it's time to move on now.
