The giant egg billboard starts cracking and opening up in the wee hours of morning. By breakfast time, the egg has already hatched, and you can see ‘Fresh Eggs Daily’ written on the egg’s yolk.

According to SignWeb, which seems to be where this original post's content was stolen from, the sign was at a McDonald's on Clark and Addison.

More info here:

And here's a video clip of it in action. Freaky!

I'm going to guess it's not there anymore?

Thanks for tracking that down, Adelle. Good stuff.

Google streetview doesn't show it:

Ditto. Much appreciated. And there's this.

The original design called for the eggshell to fall to the ground, but the parking lot beneath it is used for Cubs games.

So, if there weren't a parking lot underneath it, enormous fake egg shells would've been falling to the ground every morning? Now that would've been interesting.

It's been up for nearly three years. Not exactly news.

Right. Should've done more digging, but people can gather this by reading the comments.

And I guess I'll steal an old line from NBC advertising: "If you haven't seen it, it's new to you!"

Interesting. It must not have always been up then, because I don't ever remember seeing it in all the time I lived not too far from there.

Bah, it's not so bad. Maybe doesn't deserve top story honors, but I didn't know about it beforehand either.
