I think this is a GREAT idea. There have been so many times where I've gone to the South side or the West side of Chicago and noticed this trend of people being able to use their Link cards to purchase chips and soda from gas stations and other convenience stores, but they can barely find a good quality grocery store that keeps fresh produce and meat in stock, let alone for reasonable prices. When most of these families go shopping they don't even bother looking for quality because they are more concerned with the quantity of the food they are buying in order to get the most "value" from their Link cards. And it's really easy to go to the bad stuff, like the chips and soda at the gas stations, especially when they have things like "2 bags of chips for $1" and 50 cent cans of pop.
The Experimental Station, who hosts the market, is a great organization and this is another one of their great programs. Not only is this great for those on food-stamps, but in the long run will probably be great for the entire community as low-income residents benefit from improved health because of their improved diet.
