Not wanting to weather crazy long lines, I waited until this week to venture over to Rick Bayless's XOCO. The food was great, but it felt like there was a little something missing at the diner end of the experience. I'm hoping this will get smoothed out as the restaurant gets into its groove.
A look at XOCO from a hardcore taqueria aficionado

If you don't like getting voted down, you don't have to post.
Obviously, I'm not the only one who didn't like your post, because others voted it down, too. I'm sorry if it hurts your feelings, but when you put yourself out in a competitive forum like this one, you do so at your own risk.
I wouldn't have commented on why I didn't like the post except that you seemed to think you were getting voted down because of random spite or something.
No, I was referring to someone else on the downvoting. Nelson posted several fresh news items this morning and they were all down to zero.
In case you haven't noticed, there is a FOOD category where people do post articles about restaurants. If you feel that strongly about it, lobby to have it removed.
I don't think anyone likes getting downvoted. Your "solution" about not posting isn't thinking about what's good in terms of what encourages people to keep posting stories here versus discouraging posters.
It's not hurt feelings here. I'm concerned about the metrics some people here are using to downvote stories and comments, which can have a deleterious effect on encouraging new members of the Windy Citizen to post their stories.
If we're not supposed to vote down the stuff we don't like or which doesn't interest us, what's the down arrow for?
I am very interested in NEWS stories about food and restaurants. I'm mostly not interested in self-promoting bloggers' OPINION about the subject.
And what's banter to you is lame commentary to me. You can build community in private messages, where it doesn't waste other people's time. That's considered polite in most of the other forums I participate in.
Self promoting?
Obviously we disagree about a lot of things here.
Let's talk about how we talk. Let's talk about how we talk about how we talk. Let's talk about how we talk about how we talk about how we talk.
Should we cast ballots on whether we disagree with someone or whether we approve of the promotion of the topic for discussion?
I think a lot of us do that via the comments, although I've also seen a few who throw stones as well. Good point, though.
I trust that we've reached an agreement with those whose best intentions might have suppressed free & open Windy Citizen discussion.
Not every dish can be a hot tamale!
That's funny that you would say that because there were no tamales on the menu.
Always leave some appetite for desert, tamale chica!
I've been having 3 weeks of dessert. I'll have to rename myself Tamale Gordita at this rate. I've had friends taking me out for a prolonged Bday celeb, just in time to start heralding in the holidays.
Tamale Chica!
Maybe my friends just think I need to be sweetened up?
So what's your one "s" low cal dessert? Please don't tell me it's water!
Sasafras, Tamale Chica.
Wha... I'm not sasafrassy enough? ;-)
Some like it hot as a therapeutic tea, Tamale Chicago!
Isn't it used as a anti-coagulant?
Go with the flow, Tamale Chica!
Amazing. Someone went through here and downvoted every single comment.
Why? Seriously, why?
This is exactly why we need to look at downvoting again, whether to keep it or to show who is doing the downvoting.
The story had 6 upvotes and is now down to 3. Previously I did a blog post on Nana's Organic in Bridgeport (the words organic and Bridgeport in the same sentence alone should be newsworthy), and it managed to hit a big ZERO from the downvoters.
I understand your frustration, but the whole of idea of this site is to let people vote on stories they like. Getting rid of a feature because it's making it hard for your stuff to get air-time doesn't seem sporting.
I'm more just wondering why someone felt the need to systematically go through this conversation and downvote every comment in it. It doesn't make any sense to me.
People can vote on stories, but to go in and just willy nilly downvote people's stuff is another thing.
We don't have to get rid of downvoting if we also show who is doing the downvoting. The fact that anyone can downvote anonomously is probably enabling this type of behavior. People think twice if they have some measure of accountability.
This morning I saw a lot of Nelson's freshly uploaded posts downvoted to zero. Stuff like this turns people off of even bothering to post, which may just be the downvoter's motive.
I agree. New posters seeing their story voted down to -1 may scare them away from posting again.
The comments beginning this thread were really lame and annoying, and I would have voted them down if I could have. (I'm not permitted to vote down comments becausse I don't have enough clout.)
I did vote down the post, because I didn't care for the writing style, and frankly, if I wanted to read random people's opinions about restaurants, I'd be going to LTHForum instead of here. I do vote down whole classes of shares that I'd prefer not to see on Windy Citizen.
Tante,
Just because you don't like the bantering, it doesn't mean that you have to judge them as lame. There's a sense of community here on the Windy Citizen, and in part, bantering contributes to creating that community.
If you don't like certain types of articles, you don't have to read them, or write a comment like this to a post. That goes for my writing style, which you obviously don't like enough to flat out state. If my writing style is that repugnant to you, then just skip over my posts.
