Congratulations on rolling this out!
Some questions:
1. How do I find the nursing home with the most sex offenders/felons?
2. On the nursing home detail pages, under the blue box, does that data pertain to the nursing home I'm looking at or is it general data? It's not clear at first glance.
(Love the 435 N. Michigan search suggstion...)
Thanks, Brad!
1. We considered features that would make it easy to do that, but it didn't seem to serve the needs of our audience: folks a) whose loved ones are currently in a nursing home and b) who were shopping for a nursing home. If you'd like to really dig through the data, you can download it and find your own meaning.
2) Those details are for the home report you're viewing. Perhaps we'll try to make that more clear.
Ah, very cool. Will take a look this weekend.
Answer: Not very, if she's staying at Burnham Healthcare:

This sounds like a 12 Monkeys kind of place.
I used to live directly across the street from Somerset Place. I always knew some crazy stuff was going on, nice to see what was really happening.
Financial planning and adequate nursing home insurance coverage may help many to avoid these public aid recipient human warehouses.
Let's ask 8th District State Senator Ira Silverstein why members of his legislative oversight committee accepts political contributions from nursing home owners & operators.
There is one place in IL where you can educate yourself about specific nursing homes -- Illinois Citizens for Better Care. Wendy Meltzner, the CEO, is an attorney who has investigated many nursing homes in IL. ICBC is the ONLY entity in IL (of which I am aware) that has solid, broad-based information and experience about these institutions. It is grossly under-funded -- like most advocacy groups worth their salt -- expertly staffed, the go-to source for anyone who knows them, and your very best bet for straightforward answers. The IL Dept. on Aging (I think it was) used to provide a written manual about nursing home procedures (how to select, etc.), but it has disappeared. Perhaps it's on a state website??? And, by the way, when I moved to IL in 1970, I was surprised to learn how many legislators owned nursing homes ... and funeral homes... both are highly regulated. Not a good source of information, in my opinion.
State Senator Ira Silverstein's nursing home campaign contributions confirm your concerns & invite Windy Citizens to discover one reason why grandmother & grandfather can't sleep soundly @ night, jholzer.
The Will Smith movie "Seven Pounds" offers one poignant moment in which one nursing home patient was deprived a bath because she refused to take sedatives to improve her behavior.
My personal experience borrows from my tour of duty @ the Evanston Presbyterian Home security management in the early 1980's & my parents lodging @ another religious-affiliated assisted care facility in Rockford in the 1990's.
Now that the 2016 bid is quashed, perhaps, perhaps, the media and its readers will turn their attention -- even briefly! -- to this mare's nest. I do think it's worse here in IL than in many other states. My mother who lived independently until her death at 94 did not even want to live in senior housing, for pete's sake!! And my friends with disabilities can hardly bear to think about their possible destiny. Anyone with experience at these places knows why everyone should be concerned. At least, I hope, the media will help educate everyone to the situation.
