Great story, Tracy Swartz!
Note that three related Windy Citizen shares had but one comment in total. Once this H1N1 influenza takes its toll this Fall, maybe a few more will care enought to share their comments.
Thanks @qstrian!
I try not to judge a story by the number of e-mails I get, but I received no e-mails about this swine flu story...
My brother's CDC epidimiologist buddy encourages us all to help raise H1N1 (ne swine flu) awareness before this pandemic empties schools & fills the hospital rooms & morgues.
Well what would they write? I think this is useful information...but it's preventative in that most people assume/hope they WON'T get the swine flu so they might not see it as pertaining to them.
Surprise, RedEye's young audience, like most young people, thinks it's invincible.
@ChicagoBankerMan ... Good point. I did expect to get e-mails with requests for more information or to help find a clinic near them.
But I guess no news is good news.
I care! It's hard not to when my university has gone so far as to set aside five dorm rooms as "quarantine zones." I just got over a nasty cold, which was bad enough. Swine flu would destroy my ability to study and take care of all my responsibilities. Hand sanitizer, everyone.
I personally know 4 people who've had the swine flu now. Given that, I expect that number to double over the next 4-5 months.
Sometimes I'm thankful for working out of Windy Citizen HQ, or "The Cell" as I like to think of it.
Like any other public health crisis, nothing makes it more urgent when friends, relatives or associates take ill.
