Michael Jackson was from Gary, IN, a sometimes overlooked part of the Chicago area. The Northwest Indiana Times covered the local angle.

Juan Cole, a Middle East expert, wrote about Michael Jackson considering the Arab perspective. Did you know Michael Jackson converted to Islam? That he was raised Jehovah's Witness?

Thanks for filling that in. The photo of the Jackson family home covered in flowers is quite poignant.

That link to the NWI.com piece is really great. Deserves its own link here on the Citizen. Post it up!

Yes, post the link!
As for Gary, the connection is often overlooked. In college about 15 years ago I wrote a poem about flying over Gary, and the Jackson family, and if I can find it I'll post it if anyone wants to read it.

Please do post.

I went ahead and posted it. Meant no offense if I caused any. this is just such a great, local story that I wanted to get it out there before everybody leaves work early to start their weekends.
