As officials prepare to demolish most of the Harold Ickes Homes, residents reflect on the development's history. Though some of its buildings are now boarded up, Ickes was once a showplace for public housing.

Some former Ickes CHA residents may mourn the loss of their community.

Alternatively, just 40 years ago, this neighborhood hosted the Rolling Stone's visit to Chess Records & throngs of shoppers visiting Michigan Avenue new car dealerships.

But by the mid-1990's, one of my clients re-launched the Montgomery Ward mail-order business just across the street from a methadone treatment clinic & a stone's throw from what was once bootlegger Al Capone's headquaters--The Lexington Hotel.
