The city began plans to convert the former rail line, on Chicago's Northwest Side, into an elevated park in 2002, and officials say the project is still years away from completion.

Chicagoans are so enterprising that someone will start walking on this trail & generous benefactors will contribute to building the trail without waiting for government to get around to it.
Where are the current routes to get up here? I live near here and would love to run up on the old tracks (and see people up there all the time) but I can't figure out how to get up!
Answers here maybe? http://www.bloomingdaletrail.org/
The biggest problem right now is liability. In the past few years, since people have become aware of the trail project, more and more people have been using the trail. The city doesn't want to purchase the right-of-way until they have a way to secure it. The railroad wants to sell it, because they have two security guards in the whole state of Illinois.
And as for your question Jordo37, the best way up there depends on where you live. I recommend walking the street right next to the trail, conveniently also named Bloomingdale, and keeping your eyes open. There's no legal access point, so keep an eye open and you'll find a spot with fairly easily. Remember though, that being up there is still considered trespassing, even if there's not really anyone to enforce it.
Thanks for the reply E. Wasn't aware of the trespassing but that makes sense given the current state.
