Defensible Space authors explored ways to make public housing more comfortable for residents. As a radio news reporter in the 1970's, we experimented with some of the concepts @ Danville's Fair Oaks Housing Development with a measure of success.

Defensible Space authors discovered that lower rise residential buildings provided a better quality of life for residents & that softening the lines between public & private spaces invited public housing residents to take ownership of public space outside their front doors.

The little things can make a big difference in improving the lives of public housing residents.

(This Windy Citizen contributor's past clients included East Lake Management, one of the largest section 8 property managers on Chicago's South Side.)
