Protesters shout down Ehud Olmert in Chicago (video from inside the lecture)

electronicintifada.net - 5 weeks ago - 313 views

Approximately 30 activists -- mainly students from area universities -- disrupted a lecture given in Chicago by former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert yesterday which was hosted by the University of Chicago's Harris School of Public Policy. While Olmert's speech was disrupted inside the lecture hall, approximately 150 activists protested outside the hall in the freezing rain.

Please share your video as part of the discussion thread on this story's original share. Perhaps you might also explain why it was necessary to infringe on Prime Minister Olmert's speech to make your point, electronicinfada?

This is a different story with new sources, and the story has comments from the activists about their reasoning.

They have no "reasoning." They are terror lovers. Period.

A few points.

Although not a fan of Israel, seriously, usually sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, it's hard not to actually be on their side on this issue.

Why were the spineless terrorists hiding and attacking the Israeli forces from behind women and children? Shouldn't the blood of these children be on them and not the Israelis who were just defending themselves?

Look, these dumbass terrorists kept on firing rockets into Israel. Hundreds of times. Israel warned them to stop. Warned them and warned them and warned them to STOP doing it. Finally they said enough and retaliated. Good for them.

If you kept poking me in the eye with a stick, eventually I'd punch you in the face if you refused to relent.

I agree with Qstrian. Protest outside. Be loud outside the building. But this is America, and even though you may disagree with the speaker, he should NOT have been shouted down. That type of obnoxious behavior should not be tolerated. In fact, it hurts your arguments and I immediately want to take Olmert's side.

Although not a fan of Israel, seriously, usually sympathetic to the Palestinian cause…

It's strange that you say this because it actually doesn't sound like this is true at all.

Read the Goldstone report. It addresses all of your nonsense.

AIPAC notes your concerns.

Peace in the Middle East? Let's check the polarization & work for justice.

All my nonsense, huh?

I re-read the article in question here. It basically is a piece that condones trying to shut down speakers, get their appearances canceled, and if this doesn't work, shout them down so they can't utter a coherent sentence.

Awesome strategy! To me it reflects the wonderful and caring Islamic facism that cannot oblige any other point of view. Everywhere in the world where it exists, instead of listening to other points of view, they just behead alternative voices.

They can't allow other views to challenge their position. That's because they know, their ideology is so weak, opposing voices would defeat it in no time.

What those people are doing by shouting down a point of view they don't agree with, is just a mild version of this type of facism.

When you you engage in that behavior, your entire point of view is suspect and by it's very definition weak.

As far as the Gaza attacks, it's obvious to anyone who can use reason and logic, that the only people responsible for the deaths in Gaza are the terrorists that profess to actually car for the citizens who reside there.

Great debators know that they must be able to make their opponents contention if they are to prevail based on the merit of their own position.

May I invite electronicintifada to remember those free speech principles upon which this country was founded. It's also the Windy Citizen approach to accommodate diversity of opinion on a variety of topics.
