Aldermen upset they are searched like everyone else

suntimes.com - 341 views    bury it

The Aldermen of Chicago are mad they are treated like the masses they are supposed to serve by being searched and having to go through metal detectors with everyone else. If I had to make a change, I say only have the aldermen go through, I trust them less then most random people.

“When I get there, I don’t expect some $5-an-hour, part-time summer help to talk to me like I’m somebody who just rolled in off the corner,” Lyle said at the time.

So much wrong with just this. First, is she saying that the guards are paid $5-an-hour or does she not know what minimum wage is? Second, how can she even get into the building without climbing down from her ivory tower. Third, what if that summer help was from your ward, you treat the people you are supposed to represent like that?!

Maybe we do need a lot less aldermen...

typical 'my shit doesn't stink' attitude. two words assholes....."animal. farm."

what's it like being an orwellian stereotype?

No worries! I'm a little tipsy here at the homestead, getting ready to go out. Probably not thinking at 100%

same here! which is probably why this pissed me off so much. -_^

Packing weapons, is it all that unusual considering the constituency represented & personal threats, Hugh?

" ... us that are aldermen—we are the ones who set your budget. If we’re the ones setting your budget maybe we’ll take an adjustment” downward, if the policy is not rescinded, [Carrie] Austin [34th] warned.

here an alderman acts as if she has something to do with the budget

“We will go back and look at the policy. We’ll talk to the vendor about what they are comfortable with and we’ll see what, if anything, we can do to address it,” [director of Administrative Hearings Scott] Bruner said.

part of how the fall budget Kabuki plays out is that the aldermen get to bluster and the dept. heads have to defer

I can't believe anyone could be mad at this? Why, don;t you people know that Chicago officials are BETTER than the rest of us? Sheese. Give you commoners a computer and you suddenly think you are as good as a Chicago Alderman!

Does anyone remember an Alderman firing an gun inside council chambers, or is it an urban myth?

I don't know about firing inside the chambers, but Dorothy Tillman definitely pulled her firearm out in front of the city council once: http://austinweeklynews.1upsoftware.com/main.asp?SectionID=1&SubSectionI...
