There's no mystery to property tax appeals, fellow Windy Citizens. It's good exercise to find lower assessed, comparable properties in your neightborhood on the Cook County Assessors Internet web site & then walk over to take a digital image of the home for inclusion on your written appeal.
The attorney preferential process may have intimidated many modest means homeowners, but those who have appealed may be pleasantly surprised to compare it to a speed dating episode when presenting property tax appeals to the Cook County Board of Review's administrative hearing officers.

The article states that for the last two years Obama has opted out of the 7% exception that is being phased out, so it's not that surprising that his taxes aren't being raised as much. Holy cow, Cmsr. Joseph Mario Moreno is paying more than $13,000 more this year, that is insane!
I appealed on my own and was denied. In fact, everyone I know that attempted an non-attorney assisted appeal was denied even though in my condo building direct comparables were available (identical units one and two floors below) and provided.
Wonder what the percentage is of individuals being flat out denied while those who pay the attorney-brother of some city official get theirs adjusted?
Good attorneys know the law, while great attorneys know the judge!
