Yes, young Republicans DO exist in Chicago and they might not be what you think they are.

Nice headline!
Now why isn't Miss Tarkov in the photo?
Ha! Why indeed? The answer is that I'm a bit wary of party labels and would rather not be involved in heavily partisan activities unless I personally know the candidate or the person advancing the cause. That's the high-minded answer. The low-minded one is that the Chicago YRs' events don't usually interest me unless it's a small group gathering with a legislator and I haven't been able to make it to any of those just yet.
The problem is with the last lines of the article. It insinuates that all Republicans are anti-gay rights (define what "rights"), pro-abortion, and anti-stem cell research (which has since been proven a moot argument with new medical research). This negates the entire article to an image of young people that think the same way the "rich old white guy" thinks.
We got the shaft on this one.
Well, you guys have an image problem. What horrible wrong are you righting? Who's the face of your community in Chicago? Gotta have these things sorted out before the media will give you a fair shake no matter who you are.
Who said anything about righting a horrible wrong? Is that the criterion needed to validate the existence of a political organization?
No. It's the criterion needed to get positive press coverage that says what you want it to say.
Hahaha, anyone who has ever tried to get ANY message into the press will tell you that getting positive press coverage that says what you want it to say is at best elusive and at worst, near impossible. It says very little about an organization's mission, commitment to purpose, etc. if they can't generate positive press that perfectly relays their message. But hey, that's how it should be. PR people would certainly agree otherwise they wouldn't have jobs.
I think there's a lot more Republicans in the suburbs.
Meghan McCain, John McCain's daughter, talks a lot about a more inclusive political environment, for example, being pro gay rights AND a republican, the idea of not having to check every box on a party's hard line. Seems like the entire political spectrum (both sides) alienates a lot of people - mainly young people - when they tell them they don't fit their specific mold.
