Thanks for posting this, Roxana. This is THE Sun-Times "big story of the day."
Conservative sites running with it, of course:
"Evil Conservative" has a truly heinous photoshop of the Obamas as deadbeat hoodlums protected by a gang of "Seekret Serviz" operatives in response to the piece:
http://www.evilconservativeonline.com/2009/02/obama-delinquent-on-17-mil...
Newsbusters commends the Sun-Times for touching a story no one else in the media will:

The breakdown of the bill (from the linked article):

o Electrical $37,185

ABC7 also has a short piece about the story, but they don't give credit to the Sun-Times for breaking the story and don't have any new info so I won't link it here.
Do you think this bill will ever be resolved? Or will it just be covered in the stimulus package?
The only reason I think this might be resolved is that $1.7 mil is chump-change for the DNC. However, I wouldn't put it past the city's politicians to somehow "forget" the debt in light of the stimulus package, and in light of the fact that they shamelessly mishandle the tax-payers' money (and I'm being diplomatic when I say "mishandle").
