Lesson: If you're going to steal, steal A LOT.

Had she stolen just a few grand, she'd still be indicted, but wouldn't be in the news.

This way she at least gets to go out with a bang!

Not at all. Just trying to point out that there are probably more 1-2,000 thefts happening in local governments that add up to way more than this, and when those people are caught, you never hear about it.

Hmmm, I don't know. Usually people steal big. And most are not in a position to steal. Only those in top positions are and someone making 70-100k isn't likely to risk it all for 1-2k.
