The rationale for this was as a protest that they could lodge without being blamed for the layoffs that Daley threatened if this were not passed. A better answer would have been to stand strong and say no.
I have to agree. At first glance, you'd think they were standing up for something or coming to their senses, but as soeone points out over on the Reader article's comments, Flores is now vowing to read everything put in front of him.....and he's a lawyer!
If a lawyer's not going to read the fine print on a deal like this before signing on to it, how's the rest of the city council going to fare? Not so well, honey.
Your point main point is pretty interesting though. So you think the whole basis of this was Daley holding layoffs over the aldermen's heads? "If you don't pass this, I'll axe people in your wards, which will come back to haunt you."
Is that what folks are saying? If it was in the Reader article, I must have missed it.
