I guess we know whose team 'old Joe's on when it comes to Chicago politics!
What's interesting to me is how entrepreneurial the mayors of the other cities have been. Imagine a semi-private garbage collection service as engineered by the mayor of Lahore, Pakistan, or food service at the schools by small companies that emphasize nutrition (I've seen the sandwiches in CPS schools -- our kids used to call them "chokes" – we can certainly do better). And over in Iceland the city employees were invited to submit cost-cutting ideas. Private and public companies do that all the time, quite effectivelyl; maybe we should try it in Chicago. How to fill potholes at a 10 percent savings, and 10 percent better, too.
