The next few weeks might bring a couple of small steps from city hall towards encouraging Chicago to recycle. Or to at least think about recycling.
Could Chicago finally start recycling?

I'm sure Chicago won't get as advanced in recycling as Japan..well at least not yet. The manager of the Biodiesel Lab at Loyola University Chicago said that in Japanese apartments they have 16 different recycling bins. Each piece of plastic is separated by the type of plastic that it is (the numbers in the arrows on the bottom of that Sprite bottle actually mean something). By separating recycling in this manner, less energy is put into recycling these items.
As you can see from this Wiki entry, there are several different bins located in public areas.

there's a guy who comes around to my building's dumpster every saturday and goes through all the trash and crushes cans with his feet and carts away all the plastic and aluminum. next saturday i'll ask him where he takes his recycling.
