To me it seems like this should be written-up as a story on a blog or media website with background on the race. Windy City would then link to the blog or media story.

vouchay has posted a like to a candidate website as a story.

Does Windy Citizen want every candidate or business website launch covered this way?

That's one thing I like about this site, you can just link to stuff instead of always having to go read a boring story somewhere that might not add a whole lot. The original poster is telling us to check out this new site. No need to medi-ate that.

As for the site itself, I guess it looks nice enough. I followed the 5th district election a little bit though and it didn't seem like the candidate with the best looking site had much of an advantage.

I posted the story because I was involved in building the site. There's much more to come - we have a lot in the works. For now though, we wanted to get the story out there - and improve our SEO!

Is it in the interest of Windy Citizen to be a freebie to help the SEO of every website launched in the Chicago area?

And how much do political candidates need to work on their SEO, especially for relatively high profile races, like President of the Cook County Board?

Well, I suppose that first question needs to be answered by Brad.

The second question is my problem. And my answer to you would be that a winning candidate leaves no vote to chance.

The arrows are here for a reason, so people can filter out the stuff they don't want to see. Everything and anything is welcome on here for any reason people want to post it. If you don't like something, vote it down or ignore it. No need to wonder aloud if something's kosher or not. Just vote it down or move on to something else.

This isn't a blog. Do people wait around wondering whether they should post something to Twitter or not?

The latest story page should be a swift-moving river of all sorts of stuff if we do our job right.

Also, I agree with Lana, I'm much more interested in linking directly to a new site like this, sending lots of people there and then getting some discussion going about it in the comments (like what's happening below me). The idea is to offer an alternative way for folks to get news that doesn't always run through the pens of editors in Trib tower.

If you made something cool, show it off on here! Let the crowd decide if its cool or not. Would love to see businesses posting their specials here, people announcing new projects, initiatives etc. Let the arrows decide!

The site is "cute" , but I wish the content about the issues were actually true instead of non factual blurbs they get from the Sun Times. I suggest that her camp really understand county government BEFORE jumping in the analysis of the situation. County government is working, the budget is balanced and the taxpayers are getting the services they need. Also if she has issues with the jail, she should run for Sheriff.

"County government is working, the budget is balanced and the taxpayers are getting the services they need."

The budget is balanced based on being able to raise taxes easier than any other level of government.

How do you measure the quality of services provided by Cook County government?

Preckwinkle has an interesting has an interesting history with the current president. She was featured in a July 2008 New Yorker cover story on Barack Obama's political origins in Chicago....

...I think you might remember the cover of that particular issue....

via Wikipedia

The article begins by recounting a 1995 meeting between Preckwinkle and Obama in which he discussed a possible run for the Illinois Senate seat then held by Alice Palmer. According to the New Yorker's account, Preckwinkle "soon became an Obama loyalist, and she stuck with him in a State Senate campaign that strained or ruptured many friendships but was ultimately successful." In 1995, she successfully challenged the signatures of Obama's opponents in the Democratic Primary for the Illinois Senate, allowing Obama to run unopposed...

...When Obama later became a United States Senator following the 2004 United States Senate election in Illinois, Preckwinkle had a large say in his Illinois State Senate replacement. She became Obama's Alderman when he moved from Hyde Park to South Kenwood in June, 2005.

Though she apparently does not tow the Obama line without question--

According to the New Yorker article, Preckwinkle had since become "disenchanted" with Obama. The article’s author suggested that Preckwinkle's "grievances" against Obama were motiviated by Preckwinkle's perception that Obama was disloyal.

But really now, who can stay mad at Obama?

Notwithstanding any such concerns, Preckwinkle was an Obama delegate at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

From the Preckwinckle website--

Seeing this item on Windy Citizen was useful "news" for me because it alerted me that Ald. Preckwinkle is building up her campaign. I've had the pleasure of working with her over the years on economic development and community development projects, and she's the real deal. So go check out that web site and learn more about her.
