According to FBI data compiled and pitched to the media by a startup with a great PR team!
They scored a Sun-Times story and this blog post from AOL. I wonder where else they scored hits?

Huh? What's the startup in question?

Interesting. And how might you know that? Are you a member of said PR team perchance? :)
Like I said, the south side sucks.
To be honest, I'm a bit surprised about the locations. I only track homicides, not all violent crime, but I wouldn't say Englewood and Washington Park are the hotspots in the city.
By my count, Englewood has logged four homicides this year. (West Englewood has seen 10.) Washington Park hasn't logged any.
Though Austin is the largest community area, it's logged 20 homicides this year.

A Chicago Police Department report released in April summarizing 2008 data found that police districts in the Greater Grand Crossing, Englewood and East Garfield Park areas had the highest murder rates last year.
I don't recall seeing Washington Park mentioned at all in that report.
