The best description of a story I've seen on the Citizen in a long time.
Rhodes tells it like it is. There is violence on the South Side because these people are poor and no one really cares about them. Their aldermen are incompetent. Their success stories leave the neighborhood as soon as they can. This isn't a disease, it's a terrible situation created by forces much larger than the students themselves.
Amen! I love Steve and the Beachwood. They also have great stuff in other parts of the site that are really enjoyable. One of my favorites for instance is the Life at Work collection: http://www.beachwoodreporter.com/life_at_work/ Also the cab reviews are hilarious: http://www.beachwoodreporter.com/taxicab_journals/
Steve is fantastic, a really cool guy in person and a great writer and thinker. If you don't read him now, start!
