Ripe for the taking, many Republicans realize. Many of the seats in the Illinois General Assembly, State Senate & all except for one Constitutional Office (Attorney General) have no incumbant seeking re-election.
Try the Tenth State Senate District (on Chicago's Northwest side & in the Northwest suburbs) where incumbant Senator James DeLeo has not circulated re-election nominating petitions. At least three Democrats vy for his seat, according to my poltically connected sources.
The GOP is known for snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory. Plus, such a shift would, I think, require a popular state-wide figure in the lead and the Illinois GOP does not have such a figure.
