Premature, LouisaMayWest?
Come on up to may vantage point & watch the political nominating petition challenge process works its magic.
Election lawyers recall the Circuit Court decicision in Watson v. Burke (1986) which allowed Alderman Edward Burke to challenge the petition signatures of his opponent if voters signed Alderman Burke's petition first before his Ward Committeeman opponent--Mr. Watson.
This helps explain why many aldermanic candidates gather voluminous numbers of signatures on their political nominating petitions. Analogous to the old school board game--Battleship--these petitions may then be used to block independent candidates from earning ballot access.
When I hear that another independent candidates wants to circulate his or her petition just days before the deadline, I simply grimace.
Great comment, I wasn't aware of that challenge process.
Was Rudy Sr.'s shooter ever caught? There were innuendos at the time that it was drug-related. There would be, wouldn't there?
