Might we solve many social problems by better understanding what incites teenage street violence in Chicago. What's the cure? Ceasefire or re-constituted family life?
The answer is something a lot of people try to figure out. Personally, I think a look at the past is what is needed. Moral standards were higher, education was tougher and more important, parenting could be stricter. There are so many laws today protecting youth and so many ideas that youth are so fragile that it seems this idea is causing it.
Youth are not fragile obviously if they are joining gangs and such. The world is run by baby boomers right now, and they were from a generation that getting belted was an OK punishment. The police protected the people then, now they enforce the law. When there was less government control and restrictions on things seemed to work better.
I'd say the answer is to start rolling back time. If a kid is acting up in class, then the teacher should be able to grab his ear and pull him to the dean's office. If there are a group of kids shouting and yelling at another group of kids then the police should be able to stop it right then, not have something happen first.
