If the goal is diversity, than racial designations would still need to be a factor, although not the entire factor. If you factor in socio and economic issues, how far will they drill down? For example, Japanese Americans (3rd, 4th, 5th generation) and many Vietnamese 2nd generation + families will probably in general score higher than Cambodian Americans due to the nature of the trauma that still exists with so much of the latter. Most Indian Americans will also scale high in the socioeconomic category. Do they become "penalized" for their success, in a similiar manner that occured in California?
It has long been known that politics and knowing the right people has gone a long way to getting your kid into many of the magnet schools in the city, so despite my questions, a less personally biased acceptance procedure does need to be implemented to ensure fairer access to all children.
Familial commitment to educational achievement appears to contribute materially to a given student's success in school. Let's devote the necessary resources to acknowledge educational priorities. Concerned parents will bring it home!
