Pippen on stage!

Chicago in 2016 video
More Pippen!
now we can focus on schools, crime and infrastructure....ya know, the important stuff...
You know, I kind of wondered all along if the IOC was just stringing Chicago along from day 1 to bring attention to the bid process. If I were Obama, I'd feel a little exploited.
When you realize how corrupt the IOC is, its easy to see how they would find Chicago appealing...
NUKED.
Out first!
Hope no one bet on the home team...
Daley Plaza just after Chicago lost.
Crowd thins out quickly...
I was only shocked that Chicago placed dead last. I was not surprised that they lost though. Chicago has bigger things it needs to focus on.
Experience the agony of defeat as if you were actually there!
Here's a little montage I threw together with my flip camera --
I took some pics with my regular digital camera, too. I was able to zoom in on things better with it. But I couldn't upload the pics until I got in front of my computer.
One detail my cell phone camera couldn't capture was that every window of every building surrounding the plaza was occupied by observers --
Another one of those pesky helicopters --
People scatter. People linger. I find the silly shit they stuck all over the Picasso particularly offensive at this point.
On the left side of this shot there's a guy with his camera aimed at me --
Finally, Jesse Jackson showed up.
He just kind of sauntered in to the local press area and looked around for a mic to speak into.
Yet I had a helluva getting a good pic of him. Dude like has a 6th sense for camera lenses. He seems aware of every single one around him - from ABC7 to lil' ol' me.
I'm convinced that he only gave me his profile on purpose. I begged the gods of shot composition for just one more little quarter turn to his left. But even when it looked like he was about to, he didn't budge --
I suspect there was something systematic in Chicago's strangely swift elimination.
Rio was the lovable underdog that everyone, even Chicagoans, kinda wanted to see make it. But the only way to assure their victory was to get the strongest contender, Chicago, out of play as quick as possible.
Could've even been an unspoken thing. An understood dynamic in the IOC voters' minds: Chicago was the biggest (and only, really) threat to a Rio 2016. If you don't vote to take them out in the first round, then there goes your underdog bid city story.
I mean, a 2nd or even a 3rd round elimination would have been disappointing for Chicago, but still consistent with expectations.
But you're telling me that Daley clout plus Obama charm comes in dead last?
No. That's no accident. In fact it reeks of an intention by the IOC to avoid the Rio/Chicago horse race everyone was predicting and to clear the field for the Brazilians of all but 2nd rate competition.
Throwing away signs
Chicago just got pwned. Out in the first round. That hurts, fellas. That hurts.
Seems like a theme for Chicago sports, get to the first round of the finals and lose.
That photo says it all, people!
HOLY SH*T!!!! insane...
We weren't even the second city today.
Interesting to me that everyone is speaking in English. Would have guessed that nations would represent themselves in their national language, not the world language.
Breaking News: Early crowd at Daley Plaza running on Starbucks.
Madrid has a lovely presentation but I keep my fingers crossed for Rio
Rio didn't really impress me in their presentation. So far I feel Tokyo did the best.
That's because the Japanese are awesome at everything. Admittedly, I do have a pro-Japan bias...
Hopefully the IOC won't be awarding based on Daley's ability to speak in complete words and/or sentences. That was painful.
Rio's running police gun battles with drug traffickers doesn't help its IOC public relations campaign.
Chicago's running gang battles that ends up with dead or critically injured children doesn't help it's IOC public relations campaign.
Door swings both ways.
My ratings...
1-Madrid: They are ready to host games.
2-Rio: They have been waiting all their lives.
3-Toyko: Old standby
4-Chicago:If the games can be bought perhaps.
Pat Cassidy ran off some stats about murders in Rio this morning on WLS. Something like 1185 people killed by POLICE OFFICERS in Rio last year. It's bad enough that COPS are killing three people a day. Go Rio!
So, does this mean they'll have the streets criminal free by 2016 then?
/snark
Sounds like Detroit in Robocop.
I love RoboCop! Yes, even the less-than-great sequels. Actually, it makes you wonder about how well a profit-driven company would work to solve a city's crime problem.
And it seems like it's already happening in a few places:

I think it'd work. that said, Hugh and Laurie disagree
