The Gist: In a crowded race for the IL 5th Congressional District seat, Charlie Wheelan has bought up the Google keywords for all of his competitors.
What this means is that if you search for any of his competitors, you are greeted with an ad for Wheelan.
A quick check on a few of them shows that Sara Feigenholtz has also bought up google keywords for herself and a few others. The article has links to the google searches for all the candidates so you can check them out.

Bill's public facebook page (he has 140 friends) describes him thusly:
"Serves as a senior-level advisor – online and in person – who can empower executives to plan, manage, and evaluate marketing in the Post-Advertising Age."

He's also on Twitter (isn't everyone?) where he has 321 followers.

Among the people following him on Twitter? Mike Quigley...who's also running for Congress against Hanekamp's client. Beautiful.
Wheelan's been getting some solid buzz in the press according to his Web site, which has links to articles on NBCChicago, the Trib and Politico to name a few, all part of managing one's marketing in the "Post-Advertising Age."
Wow, great research, Brad!
Update: Wheelan's all over the news...and yet his Twitter account only has 6 followers? What's up with that?

He's also only following two people, Hanekamp, which makes sense...and Barack Obama...which is hilarious.
Hey, nice spot on your end. Just filling in some gaps. I'm sure there's lot more to dig up here about these folks.
Which free Wordpress theme is Charlie Wheelan's web site using?
Did Feigenholtz specifically tell her web team (http://www.ngpsoftware.com/) to rip off the background from Obama's campaign web site?
FYI, Feigenholtz has engaged me on Twitter. Said she's the only candidate who would fight for women's issues. Presumably, since I'm a woman, that should mean I would vote for her. Ridiculous.
Anna, I'm sure that's not the only reason she would expect you to vote for her. Perhaps you should check out her record. It's stellar! Let me ask you this, how many other candidates have engaged you on Twitter? I thought so! That alone should be reason to vote for her. She is honest, has integrity and truly cares about her constituents!
James, shall I phone Ms. Feigenholtz and tell her that you're working hard for her? And if "James Smith" happens to be an alias, feel free to e-mail your real name to dailydaley@gmail.com Although I feel obligated to warn you that not everything I say will be complimentary.
No, the other candidates haven't engaged me on Twitter. Want to know how much I care about that? Somewhere between "I couldn't care about anything less" and "not in the least bit." You must have me confused with someone who's obsessed with technology and social media to the exclusion of everything else. While I DO enjoy these mediums and tools, I also live in the real world and have a pretty good grasp of how politics and public policy works. So at least do a little research before addressing someone in the manner you addressed me. Know your audience James. This is a good tip that will serve you well in life, whether online or off :)
Oh, SNAP!
Yeah, if you think about it, it's offensive to be stereotyped. However, since the vast majority of voters don't think about who they vote for, stereotyping is a highly effective way of getting people's votes.
You, personally, are more observant than most voters to notice. Candidates who refuse to do this tend to lose, so should candidates change first, or should they deal with the mass of voters in the shallow way that the mass of voters apparently want to be dealt with?
