Excellent idea. And with Craig Kanalley teaching the course, it legitimizes it by having a true twitter innovator at the front of the class.
Thanks Richard.
What a dumb idea for a class. I'm not sure I'd want to be the first college to offer a class on how to use Twitter. If you need to shell out $3000 or whatever it costs to take the course to learn how to use it, you don't deserve to be in college to begin with.
It's not on how to use Twitter. That's the first week and that's it. The other nine are about journalistic applications of Twitter and related issues like sources, verifying info, and ethics. Students will be contributing to a live Web site throughout the course to showcase their work and development.
Why not a larger course on social media and journalism, then? Why just teach it from a journalistic background? There's much to learn from a branding/marketing/content distribution perspective as well.
Agreed, Dan. We'll touch on social media in general too. As for journalism background, it's a journalism course, but there's lots of other applications and we'll work those in a bit as well.
Of course it's a journalism course. But without at least introducing Twitter's full potential, I believe the course's focus is limited.
Out of curiosity, how do your lessons break down? (Would LOVE to see the syllabus.)
I can email it to you, Dan. I DMed you on Twitter.
