Outstanding find.
These are the obscure links that put a smile on my face. Who knew about this odd little book? Not I.
Love his words about the American woman of the fashionable set. Go Trixies!
While I'm hardly of the fashionable set, "a whirl of unhealthful stress" does seem an apt description of this American woman's life these days. Bravo, Samuel Paynter Wilson.
Next time someone asks my why I started Windy Citizen, I'll have a new answer for them:
"So the vicious may become better men and women."
How can you go wrong with that? Who's pro-vicious?
Sid Vicious? 80's punk rocker?
My favorite post of the day so far. Thanks, Elizabeth.
I'm happy to oblige. The only thing better than a little debauchery is someone wagging their finger at it.
I just like the verb "tipples".
Glad you enjoyed my find! (Lots more where this came from.)
Incredible find. I'm thinking this author, if he were alive today, wouldn't necessarily find the modern Chicago much improved. After all, the man who wrote "The curse of Chicago is the vile, repugnant saloon" would surely be aghast at Crabby Kim's for instance. Google it :-)
