A Lansing man charged with murdering five people during an armed robbery in the Chatham neighborhood of Chicago's South Side is being held on no bail after a hearing Thursday at Cook County Criminal Court.

Arthur Brown, 25, of the 3700 block of Lake Street in Lansing, was charged late Wednesday with five counts of murder, five counts of armed robbery and one count of home invasion.

According to the State's Attorney's Office, Brown and Toloran Williams, who is facing the same charges, entered a house on the 7600 block of South Rhodes Avenue after midnight on April 23. Brown and Williams ordered the victims to the floor before allegedly shooting each one of them in the head at close range.

The victims -- Anthony Scales, Jr., Donovan Richardson, Whitney Flowers, Reginald Walker and Lakesha Doss -- were all residents of the house, except for Scales. All of the victims were in their early 20s, except for Flowers, who was 17. Brown and Williams reportedly proceeded to ransack the house for money, jewelry and a TV, and a neighbor saw the men loading the stolen property into a car after 2 a.m.

Brown was allegedly videotaped subsequently selling the goods at a pawn shop. Brown will appear in court on July 29 for an arraignment. If convicted in this case, he could face the death penalty. Brown has one previous misdemeanor arrest and no prior convictions. His defense attorney said in court that

Brown was employed as a supervisor at the UPS Store, is a high school graduate and took courses at a community college.
