Since 2004 artist Eric Maruscak has been doing large murals at conventions and festivals across the nation. What sets him apart from the many artists that fill Artist Alley at Comic-con is that his work is done entirely in sidewalk chalk. In past years his art had been featured just outside the entrance of the building, but this year he worked in the main lobby on a 9 foot by 11 foot sheet of black paper. The size and quality of his work is impressive, but being able to watch the piece gradually become whole as the weekend progresses is incredible.

Here is a quick progression of this years masterpiece, beginning with mid Friday and concluding on Sunday.

Finished!

The piece this year was a recreation of an “Ultimate Avengers” cover by Carlos Pachero, which was also the cover to the guide to the convention.
